 Kundalini Yoga

What is it?

Known as the "Yoga of Awareness", Kundalini Yoga is an uplifting synthesis of spiritual and physical practices that incorporate movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and sound (mantra & gong). The goal of this practice is to balance the energy in the body, build physical vitality, increase consciousness, and to awaken your creative potential.

In my classes, while the practices are mostly from the Kundalini tradition, the lens through which I filter these teachings encompasses the many traditions that I have been a part of  over the last 20 years.

Go Deeper with Private Instruction via Zoom
Kundalini Yoga is a wonderful practice to help shift your health and your life. There are many kriyas, mantras, and meditations in this tradition.  I can create a practice to help work with what's holding you back from being your best self.

This service includes:
  • consultation (up to 30 minutes)
  • class instruction via Zoom  (45 - 60 minutes)
  • time after class instruction for questions and processing  

Based on the consultation, I intuitively select a kriya, meditation and/or mantra to support your process. You will receive a copy of all practices and a video recording of the instructional class for you to continue practice on your own.

What Happens in a Typical Class?

Kundalini Yoga classes are not asana classes (warrior and down dog), the goal is to balance and move energy, while strengthening the nervous and glandular systems. A typical class is as follows:

  • Tune-in:  Chant or recite the Adi Mantra, Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo, which means "I honor the teacher within and the greater creativity of the universe". Reciting this mantra allows us to check our ego at the door, and give room for the inner teacher to emerge. 
  • Warm-ups or pranayam
  • Kriya:  This is the yoga! A kriya is a sequence of breath, movement, and mantra or sound designed to bring about a desired effect. There are many kriyas for everything from inner anger to helping the liver. 
  • Savasana or relaxation: The instructor may play the gong during relaxation in a live class.
  • Mediation: Just like the kriyas, there are hundreds of meditations in this practice to target about anything you can think of! In a class setting, meditations are practiced anywhere from 3-31 minutes. In individual or special practices, meditations can be up to 2 1/2 hours (yes, it's long, but so amazing!)
